My pre-RAAM weight was 155 lbs. By the time I made Parker AZ, my weight had dropped to 142 lbs. I just couldn't keep any food down. I had no fuel and I just couldn't build any strength running on empty. Around Congress AZ I finally began to keep some food down. I started feeling better. I started scarfing down anything in site. I was constantly downing my Perpetulem, Ensure, Pedialyte, etc. And when I had the opportunity, I would eat Bar-b-que chips, cookies, soup, sandwiches, candy bars etc. All washed down with Dr. Pepper or Punch flavored So-Be! I would even sneak ice cream every chance I got. Elaine made the most awesome salads and pasta. I would always have double helpings. Of course fruit and yogurt were also a high priority on my meal bags.Pity on any crew member that just happened to have some food or a plate laying around when I was close by. My hands would reach out and grab any and all. I ate and I ate and I ate. I could not believe I was able to consume so many calories and yet keep riding. By the time I finished RAAM, my weight was back up to 152 lbs. So basically, I gained 10 lbs. during RAAM. I bet not many RAAM riders can top that!!
