The Rest of the Story

For those of you who may not have know, the start of RAAM for Team Dex was overshadowed with sickness.  We arrived Oceanside late Saturday night.  I did a 25 mile easy ride on Sunday morning.  Immediately following the ride, I became sick with vomitting and diarreah.  I remained in bed most of the time leading up to the start of the race.  Joni also caught the bug from me.  So 24 hours before RAAM, the two key players on Team Dex were bedridden.  Not the kind of start we were hoping for.
Thanks to Conice for doing everything he could to limit the damage.  If it had been any race besides RAAM, I would have never started the race.
I was still having multiple episodes of diarrhea as far into the race as Parker AZ.  I was weak and could not keep food (fuel).  I fell way behind schedule.  Last year I was 9 hours ahead of the minimum cut off when I arrived Durango.  This year I barely made the cut off without being WD.
All in all, I feel like the illness cost me 8-10 hours in my overall time in RAAM.
But I am so glad I went ahead and started the race.  At least now I am officially in the books.
